Staff Information

Clinical staff assessment – includes device management, wound care, aseptic technique, and antimicrobial stewardship questions.

How to Complete This Assessment

This assessment is completed by the supervisor or IPC Lead, not the staff member. For each topic, score the staff member on two measures:

Knowledge – Can the staff member explain the concept when asked? Score based on their verbal response or written answer.

Competency – Can the staff member demonstrate the skill in practice? Score based on direct observation during clinical care, a practical demonstration, or a simulated scenario.

The system uses the lower of the two scores to determine the training priority for each topic. A clinician who knows the theory but cannot perform the procedure safely still needs training.

1 = No knowledge or skill
2 = Limited understanding
3 = Developing
4 = Competent
5 = Expert / can teach others
