Bug Control, A Legacy of Excellence in Infection Prevention and Control

Bug Control was founded in 1995 by Judy Forrest, a visionary in infection prevention and control (IPC). Starting out with just a portable overhead projector and two sets of slides, Judy travelled across Sydney to deliver one-hour IPC education sessions. Her dedication and passion for infection control led to speaking engagements at various conferences, including the NZACA conference in New Zealand. This significant moment resulted in the founding of Bug Control New Zealand (BCNZ) in 2006, marking a new chapter in the company’s international presence.

Judy’s Approach

Judy’s approach to IPC was hands-on and practical. She understood the importance of equipping aged care facilities with the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control. Over the years, Bug Control developed its comprehensive IPC manual, which became a go-to resource for aged care providers. The manual provided essential policies and procedures to ensure quality IPC practices and continuous improvements within the industry.
As demand for IPC services grew, so did Bug Control’s reputation. Judy became a highly regarded figure in the industry, frequently invited to speak at both Australian and New Zealand conferences. Her passion and leadership helped Bug Control evolve from a small consulting firm into a full-time business offering a wide range of services. Under her guidance, Bug Control set the standard for IPC education and consulting, particularly within the aged care sector.
Sadly, Judy passed away in 2015 after a short illness. Her husband Lyndon, who had always been an integral part of the business, providing accountancy and marketing support, stepped into the role of Managing Director. Under Lyndon’s leadership, Bug Control continued to thrive, staying true to Judy’s vision of offering evidence-based, high-quality IPC solutions. Bug Control’s commitment to infection prevention across aged care facilities in both Australia and New Zealand remains a testament to Judy’s enduring legacy.

Infection Prevention Services (IPS)

In 2023, Bug Control introduced the name Infection Prevention Services (IPS) to provide greater clarity about its services. This change marked another step forward in the company’s mission to offer timely, relevant, and accessible IPC resources.
In 2018, Bug Control transitioned to online services, offering digital training and an online version of its IPC manual. This move allowed the company to reach even more clients and expand its impact across Australia and New Zealand. The COVID-19 pandemic further underscored the critical role Bug Control plays in the industry, as demand for IPC expertise skyrocketed. Bug Control adapted quickly, providing essential support during the global health crisis and continuing to offer comprehensive IPC solutions.

Alongside the rebranding, Bug Control launched innovative tools such as the HUB and Eve, an AI-powered companion designed to assist aged care and home care teams with their infection prevention needs. These tools offer instant, evidence-based answers to IPC questions, advanced reporting, and access to a full library of policies and training materials.

As Bug Control looks to the future, its focus remains on providing the best possible infection prevention and control solutions for its clients. With nearly 30 years of experience, the company continues to build on Judy’s legacy, offering cutting-edge resources that enhance the safety and well-being of aged care residents and staff. Bug Control is proud of its journey and remains committed to delivering excellence in infection prevention and control across Australia and New Zealand.

The company’s legacy is one of innovation, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public health, and it is proud to continue leading the way in infection control.
