Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies play an essential role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and respectful environment within aged care facilities. At IPS, we are committed to setting the highest standards for IPC practices, where residents are among the most vulnerable. Our comprehensive suite of 24 policies has been meticulously crafted and are ready to use.
Recently, we have introduced four important policies, these additions reflect our dedication to addressing both the practical and compassionate needs of aged care facilities:
The introduction of these four new policies brings our total to 24 policies, each designed to cater to the unique needs of aged care facilities. Our policies cover every critical area of infection prevention, including hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, safe handling of linens, and now, sensitive areas such as end-of-life care and essential visitation. By implementing a broad spectrum of IPC policies, we offer a holistic approach that facilities can rely on to provide safe and compassionate care for their residents.
In alignment with New Zealand’s commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi), we have amended our New Zealand policies to reflect the five Treaty principles: tino rangatiratanga (self-determination), Mana Taurite (equity), Whakamarumarutia (active protection), Kōwhiringa (options), and Pātuitanga (partnership). This adaptation ensures our policies not only meet the clinical needs of aged care facilities but also respect the rights, cultural heritage, and preferences of Māori and all residents.
Our policies empower aged care facilities to uphold the highest standards of care, focusing on infection prevention while fostering an environment of dignity, respect, and compassion. At IPS, we are proud to support aged care facilities with policies that meet the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
Recently, we have introduced four important policies, these additions reflect our dedication to addressing both the practical and compassionate needs of aged care facilities:
- Care of the Deceased in Aged Care – provides clear guidelines on handling the passing of residents with the utmost respect and care, recognising the emotional and cultural significance of this process. It includes steps to ensure infection prevention practices are upheld, while also maintaining the dignity of the deceased and respecting the beliefs and customs of their families.
- Essential Visitors in Aged Care – defines guidelines for allowing essential visitors access during an outbreak or when there is an increased health risk. This policy aims at balancing IPC needs with the emotional well-being of residents, whilst ensuring that residents are not isolated from those they rely on for support and companionship.
- Vaccination Policy for Aged Care – Emphasises the importance of immunisation in protecting residents and staff.
- Oral Health – Recognising oral health as a vital aspect of overall well-being, this policy ensures aged care facilities are equipped to provide appropriate oral hygiene care and infection prevention measures related to oral health.
